Nurse wellness screenings

Helping adult pets live healthier, happier and longer lives

Pets age around seven times faster than humans and as they do, they become more susceptible to a variety of health conditions.

A wellness screening is a comprehensive medical MOT for your cat or dog that can detect health issues and help to give you peace of mind about your pet’s health and wellbeing.

Your pet will receive a detailed health check by one of our trained veterinary nurses and they can also give tailored lifestyle advice.

A wellness screening is as important to adult pets as other preventative healthcare measures such as vaccination. Detecting any changes early means that in many cases we can provide care straight away helping your pet to live a longer, healthier and happier life.

Nurse Wellness Screenings FAQs:

Why is a wellness screening recommended?

Wellness Screening is recommended in healthy adult cats and dogs to aid early detection of disease and help them to live happier and healthier lives.

Is my pet suitable for a wellness screening?

Wellness Screening is suitable for healthy adult cats and dogs – if your pet is showing any signs or symptoms of disease, or any abnormal behaviour you should have a check up with a vet first.

Adult pets are:

  • Cats over 7 years old
  • Dogs over 5 years old
  • Giant breeds of dog (Great Dane, Mastiff, St. Bernard, etc.) over 3 years

A wellness screening is as important to adult pets as other preventative healthcare measures such as vaccination. Detecting any changes early means that in many cases we can provide care straight away helping your pet to live a longer, healthier and happier life.

What is included in a wellness screening?

A physical exam, a complete clinical history, urine testing, a blood pressure measurement and blood testing for all common organ function-related diseases including:

  • kidney disease
  • liver disease
  • diabetes
  • high blood pressure
  • overactive thyroid (cats only)

How often would my pet have a wellness screening?

We recommend having a wellness screening annually.

What do I need to do before my wellness screening appointment?

  • It is ideal if pets are fasted for 12 hours before their appointment (no food but allowed access to water).
  •  A fresh urine sample should be brought to the appointment in a clean, dry container. For advice on collecting urine samples, please contact your practice.
  • If you are unable to undertake either of the points above, please attend your appointment and the team will advise you further.
  • The person bringing your pet to the appointment should be familiar with their health status, habits, and routines.

You will receive your results within 10 days of the screening. If all is well, you will receive a text or email from your practice team. If there are any abnormal results, the practice team will be in touch to arrange for a vet to discuss the next steps. This may include a recommendation for a change of diet, medication or further investigations.

How long will my appointment be?

Your appointment will last around 25-30 minutes but this could vary depending on the individual patient.

How much does it cost?

Our wellness screening costs £85.

PLEASE NOTE - We are currently trialling the wellness check at our Kettering branch only. Nurse wellness screenings will be avilable at all other branches from January 2023.

If your cat or dog is aged 8 or older they would benefit from a more thorough investigation with a vet. Our Senior Wellness Check cost just £120 and will give you peace of mind knowing that your golden oldie isn't suffering in silence. Find out more about our Senior wellness check here
